We had an amazing start to the year with the 2025 MYLAPS Partner Conference in our hometown of the Americas – Atlanta, GA!

Over the course of two action-packed days, we welcomed more than 70 partners from across the Americas to connect, collaborate, and celebrate the MYLAPS community.

We shared exciting updates on our latest innovations and future plans, offering attendees a glimpse into the cutting-edge technologies shaping the future of sports timing. Interactive sessions included insightful panel discussions with industry experts, hands-on product presentations, and engaging networking opportunities—all designed to strengthen the MYLAPS timer community.

Participants also enjoyed a tour of the MYLAPS Atlanta office and a visit to our valued local partner, Atlanta Track Club.

ShaZam chooses MYLAPS for best-in-class timing

MYLAPS Sports Technology and ShaZam Racing are pleased to announce a long-term partnership introducing accurate and reliable timing technology to races across Illinois.

ShaZam Racing is an Illinois-based timing and scoring company with specialized expertise in race event management. Starting in 2025, ShaZam will utilize MYLAPS BibTag technology for all their races, including their flagship events the Detweiller at Dark and the Steamboat Classic.

BibTag technology – the best-in-class timing for mass events

Founded in 1982, MYLAPS is the inventor of automatic sports timing. MYLAPS technology is used worldwide, from the Olympics and major marathons to NASCAR and local races. To offer best-in-class timing services, ShaZam Racing decided to partner with MYLAPS to use BibTag technology. This is the standard timing system for mass running events with affordable chips and the highest read rates in the industry. It was used in October at the Chicago Marathon when Ruth Chepngetich smashed the women’s world record. The MYLAPS ThinTag is 75% thinner than regular tags. This results in less waste and shipment space having a positive impact on carbon emissions.

Datasport Germany to time 2 Additional Marathons in 2025

MYLAPS Sports Technology and Datasport Germany are pleased to announce that two additional marathons will be timed using the BibTag system by Datasport Germany in 2025.

Datasport Germany GmbH, a company specializing in sports timing, accurately times a wide range of sporting events in Germany and its surrounding countries. In 2025, they will provide timing services for two additional marathons using MYLAPS BibTag technology. The Regensburg Marathon and the Luxembourg Marathon, both popular events in their regions, will benefit from the precision and reliability of Datasport’s timing services.

The two events will fall on the same weekend in 2025. The ING Night Marathon Luxembourg will take place on May 31st, 2025. It is the Grand Duchy’s largest event and draws thousands of participants within seven disciplines, including full and half marathons, relays, kids’ races, and Roll&Run.

The Regensburg Marathon, on the 1st of June, offers four distances through Regensburg’s historic UNESCO streets: full, three-quarters, half, and quarter marathons.

Kenya’s Ruth Chepngetich made history at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon by smashing the world record. She completed the race in an incredible time of 2:09:56, nearly 2 minutes faster than the previous record.

The fastest marathon timing system in the world

Our partner, The Last Mile Racing, was there to capture every second of the race with the BibTag System and it marked the first-ever world marathon record captured using the BibTag Smart Decoder. We’re proud to say that MYLAPS technology was once again used to time this iconic event and play it’s part in yet another record. Last year it was used to capture the previous record held by Tigist Assefa at the Berlin Marathon and the men’s marathon record which is still held by the late Kelvin Kiptum, who ran the Chicago Marathon last year in an incredible 2:00:35.

MYLAPS Pledges Support for Atlanta Track Club Youth

MYLAPS Sports Technology has pledged an annual contribution of $10,000 for the next five years to support Atlanta Track Club’s youth programs. This commitment will expand the Club’s efforts to eliminate barriers to entry for its youth programming by making the Thanksgiving Day Mile & Dash free to all youth participants for the first time.

MYLAPS, known globally for its sports timing technology at major events such as the Boston Marathon and the Olympics, has its American base in Atlanta. Earlier this year, MYLAPS entered into a long-term partnership with Atlanta Track Club, bringing its cutting-edge BibTag technology to all Club running events and youth programming. Supported by timing partner The Last Mile Racing, MYLAPS has powered all the Club’s events in 2024.

Supporting the Future of Athletics in Atlanta

“As a company with deep roots in Atlanta, we’re proud to support the future of local athletics,” said Camiel Slaats, CEO of MYLAPS. “By contributing to the youth programming and community races, we’re helping the next generation of athletes develop a lifelong love of sports.”

The donation arrives at a time when Atlanta Track Club has seen record growth in participation across its youth events. The funds will continue to support Midweek Miles & Dash events, which serve up to 3,000 kids annually, and cover timing services for the Club’s free youth races.

“This donation allows even more families to participate in a tradition that means so much to the Atlanta running community,” said Rich Kenah, CEO of Atlanta Track Club. “Thanksgiving Day has long been a time for families to come together, and now, with the final youth event of the year being free, more kids can experience the joy of running on this special day.”

On Thanksgiving Day, each child will receive a commemorative item and medal. With only 1,000 spots available, registration is expected to reach capacity quickly. Parents are encouraged to join their children in the Mile as adults can also register for $20. The day of events also includes the Invesco QQQ Thanksgiving Day Half Marathon and 5K.

The Thanksgiving Day Mile & Dash marks the third race of the year to be made free for youth, following the Microsoft Peachtree Junior and the PNC Atlanta Mile & Dash. The Peachtree Junior reached capacity with more than 3,000 participants.

X2 System at Guangzhou Conghua International Circuit

In late September, the Guangzhou Conghua International Circuit hosted the 2024 Hennissy FIM MiniGP China Series and the GCIC OHVALE Junior Championship.

This marked the track’s first use of the MYLAPS X2 Timing System, featuring five timing lines strategically installed around the circuit.

Each bike in the race was equipped with a TR2 transponder, which was detected whenever the rider passed an X2 System loop on the track.

After intense competition, two young riders were selected to represent China in the FIM MiniGP World Series in Spain in November. China is the 20th country to successfully host the FIM MiniGP event, and the finals received significant international attention, with representatives from seven countries’ motorcycle racing event organizations in attendance.

Thanks to their outstanding performances in the first four selection races, riders Huang Tingnuo and Liu Shanxu secured the top two spots, earning qualification for the World Series. They will represent China alongside exceptional riders selected from 22 other countries in this prestigious competition.

Successful MX Partner Conference in Arnhem

We look back at a great day in Arnhem, the Netherlands, for our first-ever MYLAPS MX Partner Conference.

Over 30 of our motocross partners from across Europe were updated on our latest developments and had the opportunity to share knowledge and network with industry experts. We had a day full of presentations, product demonstrations, panel discussions, and networking sessions.

We gave an overview of the MYLAPS MX product portfolio including timing, speedhive, and race control. We were delighted to demo the MYLAPS Race Control solution for MX. With MX riders on the track, we showcased the MX Panels and Race Control Manager software, demonstrating the automatic accident detection system that alerts race control instantly when a rider stops unexpectedly, using electronic flagging to help prevent further accidents.

Finish line at Lola’s Challenge Weekend

Lola’s Challenge Weekend timed by MI Carrera

MI Carrera, our partner from Puerto Rico, timed a non-profit event, Lola’s Challenge Weekend, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The event consisted of three races over three days; 5k first day, 10k on the second day, and 21k on the last day. Participants enter one event or complete the challenge of all three races. There were 16,000 participants in the event overall, with 5,200 people completing the 3-day challenge. The innovative event was timed with MYLAPS BibTag technology.

Hosted by the High Line Canal Conservancy in Denver, Colorado, the second annual Summer Scamper 5K combined community spirit with purpose, raising funds to protect the historic Canal. For the second year, HAL Sports has provided the Summer Scamper 5K with full event services from directing, timing, and announcing to promoting this community event. In June, HAL Sports, led by Lonnie and Michelle Somers, timed the 350-participant event, using the MYLAPS BibTag System including two BibTag Smart Decoders, and two 6m EasyMats for the start and finish lines.

Appalachian Timing at the Moonlight on the Falls Marathon & Dutch Miller XC Invitational
Ricky Campbell and Appalachian Timing had a busy weekend over the summer, managing two significant events: the Moonlight on the Falls Marathon and the Dutch Miller XC Invitational. The Moonlight on the Falls Marathon, organized by Canaan Valley Running Club, features a Marathon, Half Marathon, Distance Challenge (Ultra Marathon), Relay, and Quarter Marathon. It takes place on a 6.55-mile loop under the stars at Blackwater Falls State Park, West Virginia. The 750-participant event took place in late August, started at 10 pm and continued until 7.45 am. Each lap was accurately recorded using MYLAPS BibTag technology.

Meanwhile, the Dutch Miller XC Invitational in Huntington, WV, kicked off the Cross-Country season with 630 athletes from 40 teams. Appalachian Timing ensured flawless timing, capturing a 100% read rate with the BibTag System and highlighting a standout performance with a winning time of 15:13.

These events underscore the importance of MYLAPS technology in delivering accurate timing and enhancing the race experience for both participants and organizers.
